Tutorial: Painting Cabochon Gems

Description

NOTE:
For the sake of clarity, the item being painted in the tutorial is a half-marble, but the tutorial IS intended for use on cabochons or any other flat-sided, domed "gem". Whether you're painting a tank marble or a true cabochon, the steps remain the same. So does the hot glue warning! I have read "Help!" LiveJournals where people have had their beautiful, hard work ruined by trying to use hot glue to install cabochons. Just. Don't. Do. It.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So I'm at a time in my life where physical art projects are proving to be more therapeutic to me than digital art.
So I'd figure I'd share what I've been doing.
Here's a tutorial for how I paint cabochons, half-spheres, to look like gems.
You can watch a more in-depth version of this tutorial on YouTube: Cabochon Video Tutorial
.:Materials:.
-Nail Polish Method-
*Acrylic Cabochons
*Clear Coat Nail Polish
*Colored Nail Polish
-Acrylic Paint Method-
*Acrylic Cabochons
*Acrylic paint(s)
*Brushes
-IF YOU ARE PAINTING EYES-
Cabochons can be used to make decent follow-me eyes. When painting eyes you need to paint each part in "reverse order" of how you would normally paint eyes.
So for example: Pupil -> Details -> Iris
whatever you want to be "on top" you need to paint first.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask. If you use this tutorial to make something, share it with me!
Please don't re-post this tutorial without my permission.
Those look like clear mancala stones ( which I think are glass ). ( flat glass marbles, which are used in mancala as well as other games and at the bottom of displays for plants/fish )
Usually acrylic cabochons are really smooth on the underside ( little to no texture at all ) and have a really uniform appearance ( either spherical top-side or a raised look followed by a spherical dome ). These look like mancala stones.
These are cabochons.
